I am 20 days away from starting my journey! As I have been enjoying my summer, it is starting to set in that I will be leaving soon. This means preparing everything from clothes to outlet adapters. Recently, I have been thinking a lot about my goals and expectations for the five weeks I will be spending in Sorrento. But first, I want to talk about why I chose this program.
Ever since I was young, I had always wanted to study abroad. There's something special about exploring a new environment that you aren't familiar with. As college pressures started to weigh me down, I wasn't sure if I would have time in my schedule to make this dream a reality. Internships are important for any business major and each summer is the optimum time to gain that experience. I had delayed applying to a study abroad program because I didn't want to sacrifice time I should have been interning. This changed when I learned about the UF in Sorrento program. This program not only gives me the chance to study in Italy, but to also complete an internship with a local company.
Goals and Expectations
1. LIVE IN THE PRESENT - I am so lucky to have the opportunity to spend 5 weeks in Italy and I don't want to take one second for granted. I can't wait to take in the seaside landscapes, observe the architecture, and experience the local culture.
2. IMPROVE PROFESSIONAL SKILLS - As I am getting ready to join the workforce, it is important to use every opportunity to learn and grow. I would like to increase my confidence both in the decisions I make and in new situations.
3. ENJOY THE FOOD - Sorrento is known for its seafood, lemons, and Neapolitan pizza. I could easily eat pasta and Margherita pizza every day, so I look forward to experiencing the local cuisine and expanding my palate.
4. BE FLEXIBLE - I tend to be the type that likes to be prepared for any possible situation, however, while traveling plans can change at any moment. I hope to remain openminded and adaptable to any new opportunities that might present themselves. If something does not work out, it shouldn't ruin my day, but lead me in a new direction.
I'd also like to thank my family for helping to send me on the trip of a lifetime! I don't know what I would do without all your support and love.
Thanks for reading and I will post again soon,
xx Jenna
